In this course will be introduced to safe knife handling and will take a pre-axed butter spreader to a finished product. They will learn 4 to 5 safe knife techniques and how to read the grain on a piece of wood to cut cleanly. We will discuss common beginner carving problems and how to address them, such as creating an accidental shelf, what to do when the grain wobbles and changes direction, and how to recognize hand fatigue before you get too tired. Each child will leave with a finished butter spreader.
