The Pole Lathe is a centuries-old technology that is powered entirely by the craftsperson’s body as they are working. The turner is responsible not only for the control of the tool and shaping of a graceful form but also for powering the turning of the bowl using a kick pedal. 

This is a very rewarding method of turning as a finished bowl is the result of an effort of both mind and body.

This demonstration will cover wood selection, shaping of bowl blanks with an axe, tools, and the turning of a bowl on a pole lathe.
