Learn green wood joinery and the use of hickory bark for chair bottoms.
Students will lay out patterns for a stool, shape legs (x4) from a bolt using hammer and wedge, hatchet and drawknife with shaving horse. Holes-mortises-will be bored using brace and bit (x16) Rungs (x8) will be finish shaped, sized and tenons shaped (x16).
Bark gathering discussed along with storage and preparation, weave pattern with beginning, joining -splicing-weave strips, and transition from warp to weave will be covered,
Participants should expect a busy two days covering lots of detail and discussion of creating from tree to finished furniture.
Materials Fee
To ensure tight joinery Terry will prepare the rungs and dry them in advance. Materials fee $20 to be paid directly to the instructor. Hickory bark can also be purchased from the instructor for an additional $80.
