Shakori Hills Community Arts Center

Shakori Hills is music and events venue nestled on 50 acres of farmland in Pittsboro, North Carolina. It supports the local music and arts community through cultural events and outreach to local schools while teaching environmental awareness and sustainable living practices.

The venue includes marked camping sites with outdoor showers. Camping is free with the purchase of a General Admission ticket.

Accommodations

Camping

Tent camping is available on the venue grounds with weekend passes at Creekside East and West behind the Grove Stage. We ask that the campsites for this event take up a small footprint and be courteous to the surrounding camping neighbors. Generally, a 10×10 space for a tent and small popup are what you’ll see at campsites. You are welcome to bring your own food and dish ware or treen, and a washing station will be available.

Propane canisters may be used on-site but must leave with their owners. Canisters cannot go in the trash or recycling. The festival has to pay a lot of money to recycle these canisters.

If there is not a fire ban in Chatham County, then small campfires are allowed within existing rock fire pits on a first come first served basis. No rocks may be removed from the “Rock Garden” and fires must never be left until fully extinguished.

Showers have a men’s and women’s side with 4 private stalls on both sides. A communal changing bench and cubbies are on both sides.

Health and Safety

We value the health and safety of our staff and patrons. For information on our COVID policy and required waivers for workshop participants, visit our Health and Safety Policy page.

A Few Tips To Stay Healthy & Safe

  • Unplug! Cell phone coverage is spotty – at best. You will have better luck sending a text. Take the picture or video and worry about posting it later. If you must make a call, the best places for coverage seem to be in the Food Village or in day parking.
  • Bring a flashlight
  • Use sunscreen
  • Use bug spray – ticks and chiggers are active in North Carolina.
  • A First Aid Kit will be available in the center of the Dance Tent.
  • Stay hydrated! There are deep well water spigots throughout the site.
  • Keep an eye out for one another. If you witness something that feels unsafe please report it to the nearest volunteer or instructor.
  • Please spread the word about the 911 Good Samaritan Law in NC. The “911 Good Samaritan” law provides protections from charge and prosecution for drug and alcohol possession and underage drinking for both the victim and those who seek help during an overdose. Bottom line, if someone needs medical assistance, do not hesitate to seek help immediately.

Alcohol

Due to insurance regulations following the COVID-19 pandemic, outside alcohol is not allowed at Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival. Beer and wine will be available on the property, and only those aged 21 years or older with valid identification are allowed to consume. Public intoxication and drug abuse are not acceptable, and we reserve the right to intervene if we believe anyone is acting inappropriate and/or disrespectful.

Water

We are so lucky to have delicious, deep well water for drinking conveniently situated at multiple points throughout the property. As such, we highly recommend bringing your re-fillable water containers to stay hydrated through the entire duration of your stay. Look for the Deep Well Water signs on the map and throughout the farm.

Trash, Recycling & Compost

Please help us reduce our waste by following this simple request — if you bring it with you, take it home! If you must leave trash or recycling, please sort glass, aluminum, plastic, cardboard & trash. Need bags? We’ve got you covered! Just ask for trash and recycling bags at the Ticket Booth.

Our food vendors use all compostable utensils and paper products so please discard any trash (plastic, aluminum foil etc.), and then place your left over food, paper plates, cups, napkins, and utensils from food vendors in the compost.

Dogs

Well behaved dogs are permitted and must remain leashed.

Food and Beverages

Food and beer will be available for purchase during the festival from on-site vendors. See the current event page for more information.
